The Witches

Roald Dahl’s The Witches has received the remake treatment, and now Robert Zemeckis’ take on the classic children’s story is almost here. Well, it is officially spooky season.

In a surprise move, the new adaptation is heading to HBO Max in the US later this month, but will still be released in cinemas in the UK. It stars Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch, a role made equal-parts iconic and terrifying by Anjelica Huston in the original.

The movie also stars Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, Chris Rock and newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, with Zemeckis and Kenya Barris adapting Dahl’s novel for the screen.

HBO Max shared the official poster for the update on social media, as did Warner Bros UK, who confirmed that a UK release date would be announced “soon”.
